BTS' annual BangBangCon concert, a beloved part of their FESTA celebrations, is set to mark the group's anniversary this year with a distinctive twist. This special event promises to be a nostalgic journey through some of BTS' most memorable performances, allowing fans to relive the magic of past concerts while celebrating the group's anniversary. Despite the members' absence, the ARMY can look forward to an exciting and emotional experience, staying connected with BTS through their legendary performances.

Update: The live broadcast ended and it is no longer available on the BANGTAV TV YouTube channel but here are some clips from the concert

BANGBANGCON is a virtual concert series organized by BTS, first launched in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Designed as a way for BTS to connect with ARMY (their global fanbase) while live concerts were not feasible, BANGBANGCON allowed fans to relive some of the most iconic BTS performances from the comfort of their homes.

Origins of BANGBANGCON: BANGBANGCON debuted in April 2020, streaming over two days. It was an innovative idea meant to bring joy and entertainment to ARMYs worldwide, who were unable to attend concerts in person due to global lockdowns. The name "BANGBANGCON" combines “Bang” from Big Hit Entertainment’s old name (now HYBE), “Bangtan” from BTS’s full name (Bangtan Sonyeondan), and “con” for "concert." Essentially, it translated into a “BTS concert from your room.”

The First Edition (April 18-19, 2020):

BANGBANGCON streamed performances from eight past BTS concerts and fan meetings on YouTube (via BTS's channel BANGTANTV). The concerts were pre-recorded shows from different tours, providing fans with the experience of watching the members perform on stages across various countries and times, including concerts like:

- 2015 BTS LIVE "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life" On Stage

- 2016 BTS LIVE "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life" Epilogue

- 2017 BTS Live Trilogy Episode III: The Wings Tour in Seoul

- BTS 3rd Muster (ARMY.ZIP+), and more.

This event allowed ARMY to reminisce about BTS’s evolution as performers, from their early years as rookies to becoming global superstars.

One of the unique aspects of BANGBANGCON was how it enhanced the fan experience. Fans who were logged into their ARMY membership on Weverse (BTS's fan community platform) could sync their lightsticks (BTS's official lightstick, the ARMY Bomb) with the online concert. This feature simulated a concert-like environment at home, with lightsticks changing colors in sync with the performances. The participation was not just limited to watching; it was about recreating the atmosphere of a live concert as closely as possible.

BANGBANGCON: The Live (June 14, 2020):

Building on the success of the original event, BTS hosted "BANGBANGCON: The Live on June 14, 2020. This time, it was a live virtual concert, rather than a re-broadcast of older performances. The timing of the event was significant as it coincided with BTS's annual FESTA celebrations, which commemorate the anniversary of their debut (June 13).

BANGBANGCON: The Live was a paid live-streaming concert that lasted about 90 minutes, featuring intimate performances and a special fan meeting atmosphere. This marked the first time BTS performed live for ARMY after the pandemic started. The members took turns performing solo tracks, group hits, and fan-favorite songs. BTS also expressed their gratitude for ARMY's continuous support, even during uncertain times. The event broke records, attracting 756,600 concurrent viewers from 107 regions, making it one of the largest paid virtual concerts in history.

BANGBANGCON 21 (April 17, 2021):

Following the success of the original BANGBANGCON, BTS brought the series back in April 2021. Dubbed BANGBANGCON 21, it followed the same structure as the first BANGBANGCON by streaming past concert footage over YouTube for free. This time, fans could enjoy:

- 2015 BTS LIVE HYYH On Stage

- BTS 5th Muster [Magic Shop]

- 2019 BTS World Tour: Speak Yourself in São Paulo

Like the previous version, ARMY Bomb syncing was available, and ARMY around the world once again gathered to relive these iconic moments together.

BANGBANGCON wasn’t just about performances. It reflected BTS’s commitment to maintaining their connection with fans during difficult times. BTS has always had a reputation for engaging with their fans in meaningful ways, and BANGBANGCON helped to strengthen that bond. By providing free access to hours of concert footage and offering unique fan engagement experiences like the synced lightstick feature, BTS and their label showed their appreciation for ARMY’s loyalty.

Furthermore, it set a precedent in the entertainment industry. The innovative concept of a virtual concert allowed BTS to break boundaries in terms of how artists interact with their audiences in the digital age. With live concerts not possible due to the pandemic, many other artists and organizations followed suit, hosting similar virtual events. However, BANGBANGCON was one of the earliest and most successful examples of such an event.

ARMY welcomed BANGBANGCON with open arms, celebrating the opportunity to relive concert moments that some might not have seen before. Fans flooded social media with excitement, sharing synchronized lightstick displays and participating in trending hashtags like #BANGBANGCON. The event not only fostered nostalgia but also became a way for fans to come together and celebrate BTS’s journey as artists. Given its immense success and BTS’s ongoing innovations in connecting with fans, BANGBANGCON set the stage for future virtual concerts and interactive fan experiences. As digital technology and fan engagement methods continue to evolve, it’s possible that BANGBANGCON or similar virtual events could become a regular feature in BTS's repertoire.

BANGBANGCON is more than just an online concert—it’s a testament to BTS’s adaptability, innovation, and dedication to their fans. By offering these concerts in a time of global crisis, BTS brought joy to millions, proving once again that their connection with ARMY goes beyond the music. Whether it’s through live performances or virtual events, BTS continues to show that they will always find a way to be there for their fans, no matter the circumstances.

If you're a fan who missed the original BANGBANGCON, stay tuned to BTS’s official channels for future announcements. The sense of community, the excitement, and the nostalgia make BANGBANGCON an unforgettable experience for any ARMY.
